UPDATE: There is a Twitter account using the handle @sierra_games that claims to be Sierra Games. Sierra PR has confirmed that this Twitter account is a fake, and should not be trusted as a source of news about the revived company.
After teasing the return of one of the best known company names in PC Gaming, this week at Gamescom, Activision has officially confirmed Sierra Games is back.
“We’re very proud of what we created all those years ago with Sierra Online, and today’s news about carrying Sierra forward as an indie-specific brand is very encouraging,” said Sierra founder Ken Williams in an official statement.
Reborn as an indie incubator for the publisher, Sierra will focus on bringing indie games to a wide range of digital platforms, leaving the AAA titles to its parent company. But, there is even better news coming out about Sierra at Gamescom this week. The return of Sierra heralds the return of fan favorite titles – King’s Quest and Geometry Wars.
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions will be the first 3D game in the franchise and will release at the end of 2014. King’s Quest will focus on King Graham, as he regales his granddaughter with tales of adventures past. The new King’s Quest is set to release in 2015. But, don’t get too excited just yet. Both titles will be developed by different development teams from the originals, so it is too early to get our hopes up, as we don’t know how each team will treat their respective franchise. That said, for now, let’s bask in the glorious future that could be.
